Still Cozy in Indiana

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know a number of local bloggers here in Indianapolis. We have networked, joined forces, and are trying to work on different themes for each month. As the last minutes of January tick away, I’m going to seize the moment to reveal how I stayed #cozyinindiana these first few weeks of the new year.

The irony of the “cozy” theme is that we have had unseasonably warm weather hitting in the 60s as recent as this past week. We did, however, get our first snow fall of the year. During this snowfall, I happened upon a gentleman, Bob, who gave me some wise words for surviving winter.

When I found Bob he was sitting in snow reading his newspaper. The same newspaper, same page even, that I saw him read this summer. And while he was covered in snow, he didn’t seem to mind it. In fact, he looked cozy.

Bob told me that when he went to school he didn’t have snow days or two hour delays. He was raised to embrace the cold and find comfort in it. In fact, it would get so cold during his 5 mile barefoot trek to school that he used to warm his hands in a tub of ice that he would carry with him.

I thought that Bob may have been toying with me, but the truth of the matter is that I found him just like this-

Given his current state, I found Bob to be an expert and heeded his advice which was simple – stay active. And so we did.

My family played in the snow, built crafts, painted, saw the Globetrotters, enjoyed warm beverages, watched movies, and entertained friends. And that’s how we survived the first snowfall of the year and a chilling beginning to 2016. And when it warmed up? We went to the park, rode bikes, and played in the yard.

Don’t let the calendar fool you – fun isn’t just for the summer. There are lots of fun things to do in January. Don’t believe me? Check out how some of my other Indy Blog Society friends stayed cozy in Indiana:
