The One Resolution I’m Making

Captain’s Log. Daddy Chronicles. Diaper Date 2302.
It is the Eve of the New Year. I’m not one for making resolutions because they usually don’t stick. There was the year that I was going to do 100+ push-ups every day. That ended with tendinitis in March. The year I was going to give up pop. That ended three days in. And the year I was going to fit into the eenie weenie polka dot bikini. That ended before I lost that bet (thank goodness). But that’s another story.
This year. I’m doing something different. My resolution?
I’m going to change the lightbulb.
Seriously, that’s my resolution. Let me explain.
You see there is a pair of lamps in our living room that are connected to the switch on the wall. The problem is that each has an individual floor foot switch behind our couches. That doesn’t sound like a problem until you consider that our cats trounce behind the couches and sometimes turn the lights off. Then, when we turn the switch on, we play a game of “Is the bulb burned out or did a cat do it.” Usually it is the bulb (these lights are hard on bulbs for some reason). Sometimes we just change the bulb.
And sometimes it is just easier to sit in the dark – which is where my resolution comes in to play.
The biggest problem, in my experience, with resolutions is that the focus is on the big picture and not the details. How exactly are we going to achieve our goals.
Sometimes in order to reach our goals we have to do the fine tuning. Sometimes we have to change a lightbulb to see exactly what we are doing.
The Captain has some big goals for this new year, but they won’t be resolutions. My only resolution is to change the bulb and pay attention to the details.
Poop Deck Community, thank you for hanging with us this year. We look forward to another year of fun. Keep coming back and bring a friend. We wish you health and wealth (the good kind – family, love, and whatnot).
Happy New Year to you all! See you in 2014.
For now…Captain out.
