The #MilkLife

What is the Milk Life?  It’s a movement to show how milk can help you power through your day and reach your potential.  The Milk Life is about wringing every drop of potential out of your day.  It is both literal and symbolic.  It was also evident last week.

Last week the school district that I work for held it’s annual Charity Basketball Game(s).  The contests involve all three middle schools in the district plus the police and fire department.  Students, parents, and staff members come together to raise money for a worthy cause.

This year’s beneficiary was the Dayspring Center of Indianapolis, whose tag line is “Helping families find their way back home.”  And help they do.  To simply call the Dayspring Center a “shelter” would be a gross understatement.  They offer meals, support and emergency shelter to Central Indiana families in need.

Here is a cool statistic from the Dayspring websiteEighty percent (80%) of residents who complete the program at Dayspring Center move directly into permanent housing.  Talk about reaching for your potential.

In addition to raising money, students were encouraged to bring in items (from a list of needs provided by the Dayspring Center) to donate. One of the items on the list? Milk.

Thanks to the generosity of Prairie Farms Dairy and our friends at MilkPEP, 44 gallons of milk will be donated to the Dayspring Center this week!

Prairie Farms Dairy is a farmer-owned organization, servicing the Mid-West and South for over 70 years.

Milk is an item that is seldom donated to food banks – which is unfortunate because each 8oz. serving of milk provides 9 essential vitamins and 8 grams of protein.

And let me tell you that I needed every gram of protein to get up and down the court that night. Our team lost both games, but it was a fun evening. The fact of the matter is that the Dayspring Center won that night. The support from the staff, students, and community was great.

So what is Milk Life? Whether you are hooping it up, raising money for a good cause, or simply trying to make today the best today it can be – the Milk Life is about reaching for and enjoying every last drop of potential.

Want a chance to win milk for a year? Check out the #MilkLife sweepstakes! It ends Thursday. Share how you jumpstart your morning routine & enter for a chance to win. Rules http://milk.am/milklife.

To be clear, I was not compensated for this post. I would again like to thank Prairie Farms for their donation, MilkPEP for the coordination and their participation, and Dayspring Center of Indianapolis for giving us a chance to make a difference.
